How Christmas in July Started

Christmas in July began in the summer of 1933 when campers at North Carolina’s Keystone Camp, “dressed in flannel pajamas and clutching mugs of hot cocoa, awaited the arrival of Santa Claus on the back of a maintenance truck …” (Country Living). After greeting everyone with a cherry Ho-Ho-Ho, Santa would pass out presents to each camper. Over the years, the annual celebration evolved and, according to the article is more inclusively observed today.
